Common questions

I've installed it but I can't see the ring.

Two things to check. First, the master switch: click the ring icon in your menu bar and make sure Highlight Cursor is ticked. Second, if Fade Out When Idle is on, the ring hides after a few seconds without movement — move the mouse and it comes back.

Where is the app after installing?

Ringlight has no Dock icon and won't appear in the app switcher — it's a menu bar app by design. Look for the small ring icon near the clock, at the right-hand end of your menu bar.

Does it need any permissions?

No. Ringlight needs no Accessibility access, no Screen Recording access, and no account. If macOS ever prompts you for permissions on Ringlight's behalf, something is wrong — please email me.

Will it show up in my recording or screen share?

Yes. The ring is drawn on screen, so anything that captures your screen captures it too — QuickTime, OBS, Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, and so on.

Can I make it start automatically?

Yes. Open System Settings → General → Login Items, click + under "Open at Login", and choose Ringlight.

Does it work on multiple displays?

Yes, on all of them, and across Spaces and full-screen apps. If you plug in or rearrange a display while it's running, it adjusts on its own.

How do I uninstall it?

Quit it from the menu bar, then drag Ringlight from your Applications folder to the Trash. If you want to remove its settings too, delete the folder ~/Library/Containers/com.studiomo.Ringlight.
